Neighborhood House Association Sign 25-Year Lease on Critical Social Service Building

-Facility continues legacy of more than 40 years of community service-

The San Diego City council approved a 25-year lease agreement of Neighborhood House Association’s (NHA) Social Service location in the Mountain View community of San Diego. The property, located at 841 S. 41st Street, has been operated by NHA for more than 40 years and has provided thousands of families with much needed health and social services.

“Knowing that we have a permanent place for the next 25 years solidifies our efforts in the community and allows us to better plan for the future needs of our families,” said NHA President and CEO Rudolph A. Johnson, III. “NHA has been a vital part of the community for nearly 100 years and this lease agreement allows us to continue that tradition of service.”

The NHA 41st Street location houses two facilities and operations for seven of NHA’s eleven community service programs. Those programs include NHA’s Senior Service Center, Senior Nutrition, teen pregnancy prevention, HUD Housing Counseling, Early Head Start services, the Emergency Services program and the newly-opened Homework Center. In addition, the NHA 41st Street location provides meeting rooms and conference space for community members and organizations to rent. The square footage of these two facilities totals almost 20,000 square feet.

“The community has come to recognize this location as a pivotal point of support,” said Johnson. “The 41st Street location has been a community resource for generations of families.”

The agreement allows NHA to lease the property from the City of San Diego and operate its wide range of programs through the year 2036. As part of the agreement, NHA will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the property for the duration of the lease. The long- term agreement provides NHA the opportunity to enhance the location and adapt the facility as required to better serve the changing needs of the community.
