Penney Newell is a senior corporate community relations manager for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).

SDG&E is a regulated public utility that provides service to 3.4 million consumers through 1.4 million electric meters and more than 860,000 natural gas meters in San Diego and southern Orange counties.

As senior community relations manager, Penney helps to create strategies for the cultivation of collaborative relationships by building and identifying opportunities for partnerships. She currently works with over 275 community partners to do great things that help to energize and impact underserved and hard to reach communities.  Penney manages $2.5 million of SDG&E charitable giving in the areas of emergency preparedness and response, health and human services, active-duty military and veterans and San Diego based employee engagement programs and activities.

She is currently a member of The Conference Board, Boston College Center for Corporate Philanthropy and San Diego Grantmakers. She currently serves on the San Diego Grantmakers Military Family Support Working Group and a former board member of the Asian Business Association. She is also the company liaison for the SDG&E Alumni Association which consist of more the 2,100 SDG&E retirees. She received the Outstanding Diversity Award from SDG&E and was a member of The American Association of Blacks in Energy.

She was a representative of the SDG&E Employees’ Association for 15 years. Penney has help to coordinate over 30 employee events to help raise awareness and funds to local charities, totaling almost one million dollars.

Penney held several positions at SDG&E, including energy programs advisor and business analyst. She has also assisted in employee performance support and development training and procurement services. Penney has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a concentration in Information Systems from University of Phoenix.
