Rudolph A. Johnson, III
President and CEO

A native resident of San Diego,CA, Rudolph A. Johnson, III, knows too well the impact that Neighborhood House Association (NHA) programs have on a family’s life. As a child, Mr. Johnson participated in NHA’s Federal Head Start program. Today, he leads the organization with great passion and a vision that has transformed NHA into one of the nation’s model human services agencies.
Mr. Johnson is inspired by the struggles that families, children and seniors face each day to make ends meet and knows that the programs and services NHA provides make a big difference in the community.
Mr. Johnson came to NHA in 2006 after seven years of service with the San Diego Convention Center, four of those seven years as General Manager. During his tenure, he served as Project Manager of the $216 million expansion of the San Diego Convention Center. Prior to that, he spent nine years working for the City of San Diego.
In his five years at NHA, Mr. Johnson has led an agency-wide organizational transformation that has resulted in efficient fiscal practices, infrastructure improvements, employee well-being and innovative business solutions for nonprofit agencies.
A strong community leader, Mr. Johnson serves as a member of the Executive Committee for the Congressional Black Caucus 21st Century Council, as a board member for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as the American Red Cross San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter.
Mr. Johnson’s efforts have led to various recognitions and awards. Most recently he was the recipient of the Charlie Joiner Winning Spirit Award, the 2010 KPBS Black History Month Local Hero Award and a finalist for the “Most Admired CEO Award” by the San Diego Business Journal.
Most notably, Mr. Johnson is a co-author for the Aspatore Inside the Minds series book titled, Strategies For Building An Agile Organization.
Mr. Johnson holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration fromSan DiegoStateUniversity and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Southern University.
He is married with two children.
