Project Care

Project Care is a coalition of social service agencies, the City of San Diego and the United States Postal Service and was formed to ensure independence and safety for older persons and disabled adults living alone. Services include:
  • Postal Alert: A letter carrier watches the senior's mailbox to make sure mail is collected regularly.
  • Are You OK?: Seniors receive a check-in phone call each weekday.
  • Gatekeeper: Utility workers, meter readers, trash collectors and others watch for signs of distress, such as newspapers piling up, lack of yard care and broken windows.
  • Vial of Life: A senior's medication information is put in a plastic box and placed on their refrigerator door so that, in case of emergency, the person responding will know what the medical condition is and can determine a course of action.
