NHA Acknowledges More Than 1,000 Volunteers for National Volunteer Month

In honor of Volunteer Month this April, Neighborhood House Association (NHA) is extending its appreciation to the 1,000-plus volunteers who have contributed over 22,000 hours in the past year. Individuals, clubs and organizations across San Diego County have taken an active role in helping the agency achieve its mission to develop children, families and future leaders of our community. With 11 different programs and 22,000 families served each year, community involvement is the key to enabling the agency to provide services to men, women, teens, children, seniors and families in need across the county. Volunteers play a vital role in successfully maintaining these services at more than 100 facilities throughout the county.

"It is a privilege and an honor to work with so many caring people," said NHA President and CEO Rudolph A. Johnson, III. "We'd wanted to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to our volunteers. It is only with the help of such committed and caring community members that NHA can continue to be 'a neighbor you can count on'."

NHA volunteer opportunities range from administration assistance for the mental health programs, to assisting seniors in need with daily activities at Adult Day Health Care and making crafts at the Senior Service Center, to gardening with children at Head Start or lawn and landscape upkeep at one of NHA's many facilities.

Akira Nomiyama has volunteered in NHA's Finance department since 2003. He said that he has continued to donate his time and services to NHA for so long because he genuinely enjoys the work environment.

"The people are very kind here. Everyone has helped me and taught me so much that I continue to improve each year. I really like it here," said Nomiyama.

NHA would like to congratulate and thank all its volunteers for their unwavering support and dedication, as well as acknowledge the following volunteers who have each volunteered with NHA for more than five years and contributed a combined 8,000-plus service hours in the past year alone.
