Valerie Wright has an established career as a nonprofit administrator with 18 years experience in management consulting and community development. She is highly regarded in the community building field as a skilled facilitator, strategic planner and community organizer who has been responsible for leading several successful community development and neighborhood change projects during the past 20 years. Her passion and love for community building has led her to work in some of the poorest and most impoverished and devastated communities around the country working with various groups including migrant workers and gangs.
Ms. Wright joined Neighborhood House Association (NHA) in 2002 as the Interim Vice President of Planning and also served as the Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President. Prior to joining NHA, she served as the Director of Grants and Neighborhood Training for a local foundation; and was CEO/Owner of a management consulting firm in Florida.
It is her belief that "we are our brother's keeper," that keeps her vigilant in her commitment to work and speak on behalf of those who have not found their voice; and it is what drives her to work in all communities to make a difference.
Her community involvement includes Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Association of Black Journalists, S.D. Birthing Project (Sister Friend, Volunteer), and Bayview Charities Board of Directors, and Vice Chair. Ms. Wright is active in her church and serves as the co-chair of CanceVive ministry. In 2002, she spent time as a missionary to South Africa teaching in the schools and working in the squatter's camp.
Ms. Wright is pursuing her Masters of Science Degree in Organization Development at Pepperdine University and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism & Public Relations from Florida A&M University.
Ms. Wright enjoys sewing, writing and reading poetry, and collecting dolls.
