Michael Kemp
Senior Vice President and COO

Prior to assuming his current position with Neighborhood House Association (NHA), Mr. Kemp served eight years in a variety of executive and senior management positions at Episcopal Community Services (ECS). These included Vice President of Real Estate Assets and Development, Strategic Planning and Homeless Housing and Supportive Services. Prior to his non-profit experience, Mr. Kemp had a distinguished over 25 year career in local and regional government, serving as a Senior Manager with the City of San Diego and a member of the County's Executive Management Team as County Parks Director.
Mr. Kemp's career at NHA began in August, 2006. He was immediately appointed NHA's Chief Labor Negotiator and within three weeks, he was able to reach a tentative three year labor agreement with SEIU, Local 128. The three year agreement with SEIU, Local 128 was signed in September, 2006. In early October, 2006, Mr. Kemp was also appointed (Interim) President and Chief Executive Officer of NHA's San Diego Food Bank (SDFB) when the prior CEO was terminated and eight of nine board members resigned. He was instrumental in securing eight new members to serve on the board, which reconvened as a new board one week later. The "new" Food Bank Board successfully led the Holiday Food Drive for 2006.
His philosophy is to always leave an organization and its people better than when he arrived. His impact on organizations and specialties are in Strategic Planning, Executive Leadership and Non-profit agency re-engineering.
Mr. Kemp's community involvement includes Past President, Valencia Park Neighborhood Council, (current) New Creation Church Community Action Committee member, Pro Kids Golf Mentor and a Foster Parent.
He is also a Ford Foundation Fellow and a Federal Executive Institute participant.
Mr. Kemp has been married for 35 years, and enjoys his three children, three grandchildren, golf and traveling with his wife.
